SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT INFORMATION

The Special Victims Unit prosecutes child physical and sexual abuse, child endangerment, sexual assaults, rapes, and physical elder abuse cases. The Special Victims Unit is comprised of dedicated prosecutors who employ a nuanced, trauma-informed prosecutorial approach to these types of crimes. Our victim centered response prioritizes the needs of victims, seeks to preserve their safety and restore their dignity, and supports victims in their efforts to seek justice and healing. A victim-centered, offender-focused response to the prosecution of these types of offenses is predicated on the need to protect the victim’s safety, privacy, and well-being while holding offenders accountable.

Prosecutors in this unit are part of a multi-disciplinary team comprised of law enforcement, medical professionals, victim advocates/counselors, the Child Advocacy Center, and Children’s Division to ensure a collaborative and standardized approach is followed. The Special Victim’s Unit is also part of the Child Fatality Review Board, the Child Advocacy Center Stakeholders, the Sexual Assault Response Team, and the Greene County Multi-Disciplinary Team. Prosecutors also educate the community through mandated reporter training through the Community Partnership of the Ozarks.
